Are you stressed out and close to burnout? Do you want to feel more fulfilled in your life? Do you wish you had more time to do the things you love?
With the recent Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, I’ve been reflecting on the concept of “living a lifetime in a day,” taught by Harvard stress expert Dr. Aditi. It’s a powerful way to reduce stress, avoid burnout, and bring more fulfillment into your life.
The idea is simple yet transformative: instead of waiting for the “right” time to experience balance, joy, or connection, you can integrate these moments into every single day by focusing on five key phases of life.
🛝 Childhood: wonder and play
Carve out a few moments in your day to be curious and playful. Whether it’s a new activity, spending time with your kids, or simply finding joy in small moments, embracing the wonder of childhood keeps your spirit light and energized.
🎯 Adulthood: meaningful work
You spend a significant portion of your life working, so it’s important to infuse purpose into your daily tasks. I love empowering people through my coaching programs and workshops, helping them find their voice and navigate their careers. By aligning your work with your values and goals, you not only reduce stress but also find deeper fulfillment in what you do.
đź«‚ Family: connection and relationships
Take time to nurture your relationships. This Thanksgiving (for my Canadian readers), I was incredibly grateful to host dinner with my family and my new boyfriend. These moments of connection with loved ones remind you that relationships are central to a happy and fulfilling life. They can also help you reduce the stress that builds up from the daily grind.
🏖️ Vacation: joy and leisure
Don’t wait for an annual vacation to feel joy and relaxation. Take a “mini-vacation” every day by doing something that brings you happiness. For me, it’s walking around the lake near my house and enjoying the fall colors. These small moments of joy help refresh your mind and prevent burnout.
🪞 Retirement: reflection and rest
At the end of the day, take a moment to reflect on what you’ve experienced. Whether it’s through journaling, meditation, or simply sitting in silence, this practice allows you to process your day, find gratitude, and end your day with peace.
By incorporating all five phases of life into each day, you can create a balanced, meaningful, and stress-reducing rhythm. Living a lifetime in a day means you don’t have to wait for the “right time” to feel joy, purpose, or peace—it’s all available to you now ❤️
As you go through your week, ask yourself: what phase of life do I need to focus more on during my days? Embrace it and watch how your stress melts away and fulfillment grows 🪴
