Four years ago, I stumbled into one of the most powerful habits of my life—by accident.

As a newly single mom juggling parenting and running my business, I was desperate for some quiet. Mornings were chaotic, and I never felt caught up. So one night, out of pure necessity, I set my alarm for 5AM.

I tiptoed out of bed, made a coffee, sat on my patio, and meditated as the sun came up. That peaceful hour—before emails, kid drop-offs, and client calls—felt like magic. Over time, it became my daily ritual.

Enter Robin Sharma’s The 5AM Club, a book that helped me understand why those early hours are so powerful.

🧠 Science supports it: after a full night of sleep, your brain is in its most focused and creative state. Sharma calls this early window “the victory hour”—an opportunity to activate what he calls the Four Interior Empires:

🧠 Mindset – Sharpen your thinking

Use this time to read, reflect, learn, or journal. You’re feeding your brain with positive inputs before the noise of the world begins. It’s about upgrading your mental programming.

❤️ Heartset – Heal your emotional life

We often overlook emotional fitness. In the 5AM hour, take time to process emotions, build resilience, and open your heart. This could look like gratitude journaling or reflecting on what you’re letting go of.

💪 Healthset – Move your body

Physical health is deeply connected to mental clarity. Use part of your morning for movement—whether it’s yoga, stretching, walking, or a short workout. It fuels your energy and improves your mood for the rest of the day.

🌿 Soulset – Nurture your spirit

Connect with something greater—whether that’s through meditation, prayer, silence, or simply watching the sunrise. It reminds you of who you are beyond the roles you play.

đź’¬ One of my go-to client check-in tools is a simple yet profound prompt:

My mind is…
My heart is…
My body is…
My spirit is…

Try this after your morning routine—it helps you tune in and become more intentional about how you move through your day.

🌅 My mornings now include meditation, a Peloton ride or yoga, and tackling my most important task of the day—all before my kids wake up. It’s changed how I lead, how I parent, and how I show up in the world.

đź’¬ One of my clients, a tech director and mom of two, began her version of the 5AM Club after we worked together. She told me:

“I used to wake up feeling behind. Now I wake up feeling grounded. That 30 minutes of stillness has changed everything.”

You don’t need a full hour. Even 20 minutes of intention before the chaos begins can build a stronger, calmer, and more confident you.
