Do you prioritize your physical and mental health? Do you have consistent healthy habits? Or do you put yourself last at the expense of your health?
As a confidence coach for women in tech, I understand the relentless demands the industry places on you. It’s all too easy to prioritize work over well-being, leading to detrimental effects to your health
Recently, I had to undergo an iron infusion due to iron deficiency anemia. This condition was exacerbated by neglecting my health for many years as I built my edtech company while raising two small children.
As I lay in the hospital bed hooked up to an IV and watching the brown liquid slowly drip into my veins, I was reminded of the critical importance of prioritizing your health 🙏🏼
Do you struggle to put yourself first? My clients juggle numerous roles and responsibilities, from professional commitments to personal obligations, often at the expense of their well-being. This tendency can lead to serious health issues, as was the case with my iron deficiency.
I had ignored my symptoms of fatigue, dizziness, and overall weakness to meet tight deadlines and to manage my chaotic household. However, this negligence eventually caught up with me, necessitating medical intervention.
⚠️ There is nothing more important than your health. You will show up better for everyone around you when you learn to focus on you.
To avoid serious health problems, you must start adopting proactive measures.
Here are some tips to help you prioritize your health:
🗓️ Schedule regular check-ups: just as you schedule meetings and deadlines, schedule regular health check-ups. Early detection of potential health issues can prevent serious complications.
🫛 Maintain a balanced diet: ensure your diet includes a variety of nutrients. Iron-rich foods like spinach, lentils, and red meat can help maintain healthy iron levels, crucial for preventing anemia.
💪🏽 Exercise regularly: incorporate physical activity into your daily routine. Whether it’s a brisk walk, yoga, or a gym session, regular exercise can significantly improve your overall health.
❤️ Manage stress: high stress levels can lead to burnout and other health problems. Practice stress-relief techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or hobbies that you enjoy.
🖼️ Set boundaries: learn to say no and set boundaries to ensure you have time for self-care. It’s okay to prioritize your well-being over additional work commitments.
I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact of prioritizing health through my clients. One client, Sarah, struggled with severe burnout. She had been living in survival mode for years. By implementing a structured routine that included regular exercise, balanced meals, and mindfulness practices, she significantly improved her energy levels and productivity.
Prioritizing your health is not just about preventing burnout. I’s about enhancing your quality of life and ensuring you have the energy and resilience to tackle your professional and personal goals.
🚨 Remember, your health is your greatest asset. By putting yourself first, you set the foundation for a successful and fulfilling career in tech.
Don’t wait for a wake-up call like I did—start prioritizing your health today!
