In a recent coaching session, a client asked me, “Do I really need a personal brand? I’m not an influencer.”
My answer? Yes, especially if you’re not an influencer.
A personal brand isn’t about becoming internet-famous or crafting a fake persona. It’s about intentionally shaping the way people perceive you at work, in your industry, and in your network.
Whether you realize it or not, you already have a personal brand. The question is: are you defining it… or letting others define it for you?
Why you need a personal brand
✅ Opportunities find you. A clear personal brand makes it easier for people to refer you, recommend you, and think of you when opportunities arise.
✅ You stand out. In competitive industries, your brand is what differentiates you from people with similar skills.
✅ It gives you clarity. When you know what you stand for, it’s easier to say yes to the right opportunities and no to the wrong ones.
What makes a strong personal brand statement
A good personal brand statement is short, memorable, and speaks directly to your value.
Think: Who you help + how you help them + your unique edge.
For example, my own is:
“I’m the phoenix who empowers women to rise up, spread their wings, and embrace their whole selves.”
It’s rooted in my story, easy to remember, and sparks curiosity.
The power of LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the platform for building and amplifying your personal brand. It’s where decision-makers, recruiters, and collaborators go to learn about you.
Best practices for LinkedIn:
⏩ Optimize your profile. Use a professional photo, craft a headline that shows your value, and make your About section personal yet professional.
⏩ Share consistently. Post 2–3 times per week to stay top of mind.
⏩ Engage meaningfully. Comment thoughtfully on other people’s posts to build relationships and visibility.
⏩ Show the human side. Share stories and lessons from your career and life, not just your achievements.
Examples of short, powerful personal brand statements:
1. I help leaders turn complex problems into simple, actionable solutions.
2. I empower women to speak up, stand out, and lead with confidence.
3. I create innovative designs that bring brands to life.
4. I help teams work smarter, not harder, through streamlined processes.
5. I inspire people to see challenges as opportunities for growth.
Your next step
Ask yourself: What do I want to be known for? Write it down. Test it in conversation. Then, start showing up online and offline in a way that reflects it.
Your personal brand is your professional reputation on purpose. Build it now, and it will open doors for years to come.
